What is the Spain Digital Nomad Visa?

Spain's Digital Nomad Visa (officially the Visado para Teletrabajadores de Carácter Internacional) was introduced in January 2023 under the Start-Up Act. It allows non-EU nationals who work remotely — either as employees of a foreign company or as self-employed freelancers with international clients — to legally live and work in Spain for up to five years.

Unlike a tourist visa, the DNV grants full residency rights, allowing you to open Spanish bank accounts, access the public healthcare system, enrol children in school, and eventually apply for long-term residency or citizenship.

Who Qualifies?

Employed Remote Workers

You work remotely for a company registered outside Spain. You must have been employed for at least 3 months and your employer must confirm your remote arrangement in writing.

Freelancers & Self-Employed

You are self-employed and provide services to clients located outside Spain. At least 80% of your income must come from non-Spanish clients during the initial period.

Tax Benefits — The Beckham Law

This allows qualifying new residents to pay a flat 24% income tax rate on Spanish-sourced income for up to six years — compared to Spain’s standard progressive rates which can reach 47%.

Yes. UK nationals are fully eligible as non-EU citizens. Brexit has no negative impact — it actually created this route, as the DNV is specifically for non-EU nationals.

As of 2026, applicants must show income of at least 200% of the Spanish minimum wage — approximately €2,646 per month or €31,752 per year. Each additional dependent family member adds 75% of the minimum wage to your income requirement.

The full process typically takes 2–4 months from document preparation to receiving your visa. The Spanish consulate has up to 10 weeks to decide once you submit. Agrin Ltd helps you prepare everything correctly to avoid rejections and delays.

Yes. Spouses, registered partners, and dependent children can apply for family reunification once your DNV is approved. They receive residency for the same duration as the primary visa holder.

The Beckham Law offers a flat 24% income tax rate on Spanish-sourced income for up to 6 years for qualifying new tax residents. DNV holders who become Spanish tax residents can apply. This compares very favourably to Spain’s standard top rate of 47%.
