What is the Spain Digital Nomad Visa?
Spain's Digital Nomad Visa (officially the Visado para Teletrabajadores de Carácter Internacional) was introduced in January 2023 under the Start-Up Act. It allows non-EU nationals who work remotely — either as employees of a foreign company or as self-employed freelancers with international clients — to legally live and work in Spain for up to five years.
Unlike a tourist visa, the DNV grants full residency rights, allowing you to open Spanish bank accounts, access the public healthcare system, enrol children in school, and eventually apply for long-term residency or citizenship.
Who Qualifies?
Employed Remote Workers
You work remotely for a company registered outside Spain. You must have been employed for at least 3 months and your employer must confirm your remote arrangement in writing.
Freelancers & Self-Employed
You are self-employed and provide services to clients located outside Spain. At least 80% of your income must come from non-Spanish clients during the initial period.

One of the most attractive features for DNV holders is eligibility for the Beckham Law (Régimen Especial de Tributación).
